  • Anti-fire curtains: the Chillon Castle project

Atelier Guggisberg was commissioned by Lausanne-based architects Graf et Rouault to produce fire-resistant thermal curtains with specific properties. The project involved bringing part of the Château de Chillon, a famous historic monument on the shores of Lake Geneva that welcomes over 300,000 visitors a year, up to fire safety standards.

Anti-fire curtains and heritage

The world-famous Chillon Castle, known for its historical significance, had to be brought up to date to improve thermal insulation and fire protection. Atelier Guggisberg realized fireproof thermal curtains adapted to the interior of this old heritage site, in particular to some of its emblematic rooms, such as the entrance to the Knights' Hall. The curtains - doors help to improve thermal insulation and prevent drafts, which increases comfort for users enjoying a delicious meal.

We opted for a “demountable” solution. This allows for a temporary installation that can be adapted to suit the events taking place there and the season.

Robust fire-resistant curtains to meet safety standards

Designed and manufactured with meticulous attention to detail, these fire-retardant thermal curtains go beyond the simple function of thermal insulation. They comply with the most stringent fire-protection standards, and are made from 100% fire-resistant wool. They meet M1 standards for optimum fire safety.

Wool, renowned for its insulating properties, combines aesthetics and durability. An imitation leather border reinforces the structure for added strength. Integrated portholes provide secure visibility between the two sides. This ensures protection for visitors, without compromising safety, as they move around Chillon Castle.
